Pennants & Poets
Pennants & Poets is a public art installation and spoken word event. It is an ongoing collaboration with artist Jenny Polak, The Fortune Society and Hour Children Working Women. During the events, Fortune spoken word artists, poets and commentators perform their work in front of the collection of pennants that Ms. Polak has fashioned with messages and poems written by the performers and other writers who have been directly impacted by the (in)justice system. Together their words call for an end to mass incarceration.
The project was selected by the Brooklyn Arts Council as part of The Six-Foot Platform experimental residency in DUMBO, Brooklyn during the summer of 2021. On Saturday, September 25, 2021, MoMA PS1, Ms. Polak and Fortune co-hosted Pennants & Poets along with a public pennant-making workshop, in the 46th Ave Pop Up Plaza, located in front of the main entrance to the museum in Long Island City.
Upcoming iterations of the project are planned and details will be posted on our Events page.
We offer immense gratitude to Jenny Polak for her artistic vision, integrity and continued friendship.
